Abidemi
Kosoko is one of the daughters of the popular actor, Jide Kosoko. In
this interview with Bolanle Oduekun, the actress speaks on how the
theatre family has raised her game among other issues. Excerpts:
As one of the children of a big family in the Yoruba movie industry, could you let us into your family background?
No doubt
about it, Kosoko is one of the biggest families in the industry and we
are proud to have made a great mark in the industry. It is a polygamous
family and I’m happy to be part of it. I’m born into a theatre family,
what I mean by that is that my dad is an actor and my mum was an
actress, so I took after them.
How does it feel being a member of that family?
It is a
great privilege. I feel great to be surrounded by well experienced
professionals of the industry. I have an elder sister who acts and also
an elder brother who is a script writer and a director. Two of my
younger ones are beginning to develop interest in acting too and my
father , a veteran actor, is a plus for me.
There was a report about you during your NYSC days that you were rude and arrogant, what do you have to say about it?
That was a
funny story because nothing like that ever happened. I don’t need to
start explaining because it will look like I am defending myself. I tell
people not to judge a book by its cover. If you don’t know me, you will
continue to say this or that. I have decided not to react to the story
again. The question is why didn’t they write this story when I was still
in service? The fact is that people will talk because you can’t please
everybody. Some will like you and others will hate you for no reason.
I’m not bothered about what they wrote because it’s not true.
What about another report that said you were disgraced by a woman during your clearance exercise?
It is not
true. I was not disgraced by anybody, and I’ll say that again and again. I
wish the person who wrote this rubbish could say it to my face.
What is your favourite colour combination?
I don’t have
a particular favourite colour; I just go for nice colours and combine
them whichever way they fix. I’m not really a colour person.
What do you feel about tattoos?
Well, I like
tattoos, the small cute ones and not those that abuse it. I like all
those small flowery designs but I don’t think I can draw it on my body.
What fashion accessories do you value the most?
My shoes; I love them to a fault. I can’t count the number of shoes I have.
What fashion trend won’t you be caught following?
I can’t think of any now, I’m an actress so, to an extent, I do every type of fashion trend on set.
Who is your celebrity crush?
I have three
celebrity crushes (laughs), I guess that’s covetousness. I’m not sure
which of them I like the most, but I have a crush on these set of
people: Olamide, Davido, and Oritse Femi. I’ve always loved Olamide and
Davido but Oritse Femi joined them when he released his hit track
‘Double Wahala’.
You act Yoruba movies, have you ever thought of acting an English movie?
I’ve done a
couple of English soap operas including: ‘Super Story’, ‘Papa Ajasco’,
‘This Life’ among others, but very soon I’m going into full English
speaking movies.
What was your growing up like?
Lagos Island
is my home town. I started schooling in Army Children’s school, where I
had my primary education then I moved to Jibowu High school for my
junior secondary school education, then later moved to Mainland for my
secondary school education, after which I gained admission to the Lagos
State University (LASU) where I did a four-year course. I studied
Theatre Arts; I majored in acting and minored in dance. I graduated in
2011 after which I came to Ibadan for my NYSC and I finished last year.
What do you have to say to your fans?
To my fans
