Jonathan To Receive Commonwealth Games Athletes In Abuja


Preesident Goodluck Jonathan has expressed delight at the performance of Team Nigeria at the just concluded Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, and promised to meet with the contingent in Abuja upon his return from the ongoing US-Africa summit in Washington DC.
Said Presidential Media Adviser, Reuben Abati, “The President believes that the athletes’ very impressive performance at the games, which culminated in Nigeria being ranked 8th out of the 71 participating countries, has further demonstrated the indomitable spirit of Nigerians and the great heights they can attain with hard work, commitment, dedication, courage and patriotism.”

He added that Mr. Jonathan looked forward to receiving and honouring the medal winners and their coaches at the presidential villa. 

The final batch of Nigeria’s athletes to the Games is expected to return home today. Two other batches arrived in the country late last night.
